Compositional Research Ranking

Rankin.

Rankin is a  portrait and fashion photographer. He was born in 1966. Rankin has captured all different portraits of different celebrities such as; Britney Spears, Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue, Spice Girls and many more different celebrities. As well as this Rankin has worked on a number of advert campaigns for big companies such as Nike, as well as chairty work raising awareness of the issue of HIV in Africa. He has been influenced by successful fashion photographers such as Cecil Beaton and David Bailey and remains one of the most well-known and influential contemporary photographers, even being asked to photograph the Queen in the year of her Golden Jubliee.

Rankin has captured this image of Madonna holding her jacket closed together. The amount of light used for this image shows the sharpness detail on her face but mainly around her eyes. The thing I like about the use of this light is that it makes her face stand out clear then anything else in the image.

Rankin has used a certain amount of lines in her hair and on her jacket, the use of lines gives the image a lot of detail. The subject dominats the space which creates a composing image as well as this the use of white space allows the subject to be use to create and clear and pure feel to the image.

The subject is postioned in the centre; large and looking directly into the camera to make the audience focus mainly on her.
